Top 10 common mistakes made during Practical Driving Test
At ComfortDelGro Driving Centre (CDC), we aim to train learner drivers and riders to develop good driving habits and be both skilled and socially responsible on the road. Currently, there are more than 2,000 Private and School Learners attempting their Practical Driving Test every month in CDC. Based on statistics from Traffic Police (January to December 2020), CDC has achieved the highest percentage with a first timer passing rate of 60.51%.

TOP 10 COMMON MISTAKES
NO. 1: REQUIRE ADDITIONAL REVERSE MOVEMENT AT DIRECTIONAL CHANGE
HOW TO AVOID:
Ensure that your car is at the correct position before you began to reverse.
Take note of your sighting points and the correct procedure.
NO. 2: FAIL TO CONFIRM SAFETY AT DIRECTIONAL CHANGE
HOW TO AVOID:
Check the rear for your blind spots before reversing, and re-confirm at correct intervals
NO. 3: STRIKE KERB AT PARALLEL PARKING
HOW TO AVOID:
Look where you are moving and note the surrounding kerb and sighting points before you reverse.
NO. 4: TURN STEERING WHILST VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN PARKING (PARALLEL/VERTICAL)
HOW TO AVOID:
Turn the steering wheel only when the vehicle is moving.
NO. 5: FAILURE TO CONFIRM SAFETY WHEN PARKING (PARALLEL/VERTICAL)
HOW TO AVOID:
Do check your surroundings for safety before start to reverse, and re-confirm at correct intervals.
NO. 6: CHANGE LANE ABRUPTLY
HOW TO AVOID:
Steer the steering wheel gradually and regulate speed according to traffic conditions. Signal and check your blind spots before you make any lane change.
NO. 7: IMPROPER TURNING (WIDE TURN)
HOW TO AVOID:
Keep your speed slow and turn your steering wheel smoothly as you look at the lane.
NO. 8: FAIL TO CHECK BLIND SPOT
HOW TO AVOID:
Check blind spots regularly before turning and lane changes.
NO. 9: INSUFFICIENT ACCELERATION
HOW TO AVOID:
Do accelerate whenever you are moving off and anticipate traffic when in your favour.
NO. 10: ROLL BACKWARDS LESS THAN 1 METRE
HOW TO AVOID:
Ensure that you feel the “biting point” of the clutch before releasing the handbrake.
