All about Simulator Training

Jul 1, 2021

We often hear our older peers telling us they do not need to go through simulator when they were training for their Motorcar or Motorcycle licence.
Why do learners today have to go through Simulator Training?

Before that, What is Simulator Training?

Simulation training takes place in a learning environment that mirrors real-life scenarios, in our case, traffic conditions and on-road scenarios.

The use of Simulator Training allows learners to put their knowledge and skills into practice through physical hands-on activity.

So…… Why do we need to go through Simulator Training?

It was announced by the Traffic Police division on 4 Dec 2019 that the compulsory simulator training will be included in learner motorists’ curriculum.

With effect from 16 December 2019, all new Class 2, 2A, 2B, 3 or 3A learner motorists are required to complete driving or riding simulator training before they are allowed to book their Practical Driving or Riding Tests.

The Simulator Training allows learner motorists to have a safe and controlled environment to practise defensive driving or riding. This would help learners to prepare for various real life road situations and cultivate good driving and riding habits.

How does the Simulator Training work?

The simulator training comprises of three modules, each taking 20 minutes to complete. Learner motorists must have completed a minimum of five practical lessons before attempting the simulator training.

There are 15 scenarios used in the simulator training, based on the top 10 causes of traffic accidents that often result in injuries. These include high-speed expressway cornering, cyclists in blind spots and driving or riding in wet weather conditions.

How does simulator training help learners?

The simulator trainings allow learners to make their own decisions in real-time without the help of their instructors. They are also able to drive in different road conditions that they might not have experienced before.
